Kimberley is an experienced senior teacher at Adore and her enthusiasm, discipline and skill have made her one of our best loved teachers.

How did you first discover yoga?
I was travelling in India and fell in love with the essence of the country. I thought to myself “When I get back to Sydney I am going to look into yoga”. So I did!
What is your favourite yoga pose?
This is a difficult one as there are so many asanas I love. I am a big lover of inversions; the magic and power of understanding the inversions is phenomenal. Of course I especially love “the king” sirsansa (headstand) and “the queen” sarvangasana (shoulderstand). I also enjoy practicing pincha mayurasana, it is so uplifting and light.
Who or what has been your greatest influence?
That would have to be Mr Iyengar. I have been fortunate enough to have practiced at the Iyengar school in Pune. I am also very grateful to my senior teachers for sharing their knowledge with me.
What aspect of yoga do you love the most?
Of course being an Iyengar practitioner I have to say the anatomy and awareness of the alignment. Alignment is so important when you are learning to go deeper within and, when working on more advance asanas, it’s easy to get injured without good alignment and anatomical awareness. Having said that, I believe yoga is like the mountains there are so many pathways but the view at the top is the same
When you’re not practicing yoga, what do you enjoy doing?
Ah, this is easy. I love to play with my son Aaron, going off on adventures together and spending time with family and friends.
What advice would you give to a new student of yoga?
I would say try it! if the first style you try does not feel right for you, try another style. We all need yoga, you just need to find your teacher and it will all flow.
Kimberley teaches at Adore Yoga at 9.15am on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays and on Thursday evenings at 6pm and 7pm. See the timetable for details.
